12 Days of Folksy Day 11 ~ Winter Wonderland

It's day 11 of 12 Days of Folksy, today it's all about a Winter Wonderland, when I think of a Winter Wonderland I think of Perry Como singing and beautiful snow scenes. I'm not a big fan of snow, I'm more a hot chocolate in front of  a roaring fire while watching the snow fall from the comfort of a warm room.

But I must admit that it looks ever so pretty, so when we do get snow, (which isn't every year) I like to wrap up in a gazillion layers and pop out with my camera. 

These pics were taken a few years ago, all within 10 minutes walk from my house, I'm so lucky to live in a such a beautiful area.


Here's a bit of Perry Como singing Winter Wonderland, of all the singers who sing this song I love him the best, some artists sing this quite slow but good ol' Perry is quite upbeat, have a listen....



 I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

12 Days of Folksy Day 10 ~ Twinkle

Twinkle Twinkle Little Star



 "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" is a popular English lullaby. The lyrics are from an early-19th-century English poem by Jane Taylor, The Star. The poem, which is in couplet form, was first published in 1806 in Rhymes for the Nursery, a collection of poems by Jane Taylor and her sister Ann.


Twinkle, twinkle, little star,
How I wonder what you are.
Up above the world so high,
Like a diamond in the sky.

When the blazing sun is gone,
When he nothing shines upon,
Then you show your little light,
Twinkle, twinkle, all the night.

Then the traveller in the dark,

12 Days of Folksy Day 9 ~ Nutcracker

Todays prompt for the 12 Days of Folksy is Nutcracker
My first thought was the wonderful book by  E.T.A. Hoffmann, the Ballet and the Sugarplum Fairy but I put Nutcracker into the Folksy search bar and these three wooden items for the home caught my eye.

12 Days of Folksy Day 8 ~ All the Trimmings

I don't wrap many gifts but when I do I like to keep All the Trimmings simple and eco friendly, plain brown paper, string, ribbon or a bit of lace from my sewing stash and cute little cones from my garden. The greenery, I pick last minute from a evergreen shrub so it's nice and fresh.

Crochet is not my thing, I love it but can't do it. I have tried to learn in the past but keep on messing up, maybe it's time to try again because I'm in wonder at the ability to take a little hook, some wool and turn it into something wonderful. So for Day 7 of the Folksy Challenge I choose these Stars.

12 Days of Folksy Day 3 - Comfort & Joy

When we think of Comfort and Joy at Christmas time we usually think of the hymn God Rest you Merry Gentlemen, but what does Comfort and Joy mean to you? Language across time changes and evolves and Comfort and Joy will mean something different to everyone.
Comfort can be contentment, relaxation, warmth and cosiness, Joy can be happiness, merriment, delight and wonderment.

My Comfort is spending Christmas at home. My Joy is being with my family.



I asked people close to me what it meant to them, these are just a few of the replies.
The comfortable feeling of having family gathered together.
The joy of having a break from work.
The ability to snuggle up and watch feel good festive films.
The closeness we feel by receiving cards and being remembered.

12 Days of Folksy | Day 2 - Decorate

Do you decorate for Christmas? I love seeing the twinkle of lights on a Christmas tree or festooned across the town and city streets.



These days I am a bit of a minimalist decorator but I do have sparkling lights all around, I also have a few special decorations that are brought out every year, my all time favorites are this lovely Santa riding a white horse


and this selection of Hanging Decorations that I painted myself.


I'm looking forward to seeing all the other Folksy Folks Decorations.

12 Days of Folksy Day 1 - 'Tis the Season

Today is the first day of the Folksy Christmas Challenge for 2019, you see the prompts for each day on the poster.  A post will be posted each day using the prompts as inspiration.
It's a great way of supporting Folksy.com as a seller as well as getting the word out to potential buyers about the wonderful array of handmade crafts here in the UK.


The first prompt is 



You will most likely hear or read the phrase "'tis the season!" as Christmas approaches. The phrase ’tis the season is often used before many activities around Christmas time, such as ’tis the season for wrapping presents, ’tis the season for mistletoe, ’tis the season for chestnuts roasting on an open fire and ’tis the season for Santa Claus and the Grinch.

Most people believe that the source for this phrase is from the lyrics to 'Deck the Halls' Christmas carol. The carol contains the words, "'Tis the season to be jolly, Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la."

Deck the Halls 




 
'Deck the Halls' is taken from the old Welsh tune Nos Galan, a New Year’s carol.  Most people sing Deck the Halls in the plural but it was first written as Deck the Hall in the singular. A great song to get you in the mood for this wonderful time of the year.

Winter Moon

Brrrr it's getting colder out there, there have been a few clear nights and frosty mornings lately, great for looking at the moon through the window but not so good for frozen fingers while trying to get a decent photograph, so I've cheated and chosen an old pic of mine of the moon through the trees...

Autumn Leaves

Just a few Autumn Leaves, I do love these colours, Autumn is well and truly here.

 These were taken on my way to the shops, I love being able to take a less direct route.

It was a damp and overcast day, the rain had not long ceased and everywhere was still damp,

but it didn't take away the beauty of my surroundings.

Sometimes you just need to stop what you're doing and look at the view.


Whatever you are doing and wherever you are don't forget to pause, look around you and take some time out just for yourself.

Barn Owl painted on a Wooden Heart

I love these little hearts, they are great to paint on and look pretty hanging up, I have a few around my home, they hang from a door handle in the lounge, the wardrobe door in the bedroom and from a wall light fitting in the conservatory, I can change them around depending on my mood or change of decor.

This little owl was painted for my Folksy Shop, he sits inside a cabinet at the moment, covered with tissue in a little box. If you want him then pop over to My Folksy Shop
