This week is Handmade Monday 51, Wendy's Linky Party has been very successful and I would like to say another BIG thank you to our weekly host Wendy, you will find the link to her blog at the bottom of this post.
Not much new to show you this week, I've been busy doing more Fairy Doors and Personalised Hearts for the run up to Valentines Day. But I did get a nice surprise in the post this week.........
A picture of Nanny and Grandad
This is from our grandson, ok I know I'm biased but isn't it lovely? My daughter drew the outline ready to be coloured in.
He is 21/2 years old and chose the colours himself.
Grandad is wearing a hat and I am wearing a jumper and jeans and he said I am wearing a belt. I love the imagination of children.
I've also been busy doing sketches this week, not for anything in particular but more of an enjoyable exercise. I love doing quick sketches of anything that takes my fancy, I usually limit myself to an hour or less on each sketch, sometimes the limit is as low as 5 or 10 minutes. For the last few months the only sketches I've done are for my Plaques and although I enjoy doing these sketches they don't really stretch me. I believe that a good sketching technique is a good way of getting quick and varied ideas stored away for future use and something you can build on. I also believe that to get a good sketching technique, like any thing else, takes practice. Sometimes when doing a 'quick' sketch it is hard to know when to stop, hence the time restrictions. So over the next few weeks I am going to hone my sketching abilities, scan some of the results and hopefully show you some of my efforts in a future post.

I hope you can pop over and have a nosey.

Brilliant sketch... so now we know that artistic genes run in your family :) I love your stripey jumper... think it would make a lovely design for a card.
ReplyDeleteIt's really nice to get things like that picture. I used to get them too from my little brother when he was quite young. Looking forward to seeing the sketches.
ReplyDeleteLove the picture! Your stripey top is lovely and I adore how you've both got green knees (been doing the gardening?) x
ReplyDeleteLove the picture, look forward to viewing your sketches.
ReplyDeleteThere's something so priceless about childrens drawings. I still have some pictures on my kitchen cupboards that my little brother drew when he was 5 (he'll be 10 this year). Sounds like you and your grandson should arrange some time to sketch together!
ReplyDeleteChildren's pictures are so cute - funny when I saw the little thumbnail I thought that was a picture of you. Mich x
ReplyDeleteOhhh I love the drawing....so sweet.
ReplyDeleteI really love your fairy doors to...really unusual xx
It's so sweet!
ReplyDeleteGood for you to have a week when you can do what you want and maybe a budding Picasso in your family. Have a great week
ReplyDeleteA very smart stripey top - look forward to seeing the original :). Hope you have a good week.
ReplyDeleteThat shows your Grandson has got the creative gene too it is fab for a 2 1/2 year old :) glad you are enjoying your sketching. I've got out of the habit of drawing properly, must start having a play again.
ReplyDeleteHave a fab week x
He's certainly a far more talented artist than me!!
ReplyDeleteAww bless! Love the pic! Now all you need to do is train him to be you second in command and the likes of Emin and Hurst need to budge over.
ReplyDeleteI can imagine you have a busy week ahead with your valentines plaques. Its lovely when you get drawings, my grandson is six and I don't see him that often so they are very special works of art!
ReplyDeleteYou definitely have a budding artist! I love it, makes me even more anxious to get my grandson here... :)
ReplyDeleteGrandchildren are priceless Jan, just enjoy them as they grow up far too quickly. Are you going to frame that lovely picture. Enjoy your sketching. You never know, one might fetch a fortune long after we have all gone to a better place. lol.
ReplyDeleteJan, as long as you wear red and a belt I will be able to recognise you if we should meet on the street! Lovely picture!!
ReplyDeleteI think you have a future artist in the making!
